MADC 2006 - May 27th, 2006
MADC awards were last night. Picked up a little trophy for the work that we did with adidas for a Google Earth integrated game. It was to launch the 2006 FIFA world cup match ball from adidas. The game incorporated a flash based quiz component that ran in the integrated web browser within the Google Earth app. It was pretty cool, and we got some nice comments from Google on it, so that felt pretty significant.
Each year the MADC has a theme, this year it was all about working hard, putting in all you got, blah blah blah. They likened it to being a dedicated body-builder. The awards had a bunch of body-builders in the foyer to greet you as you came through the doors. The invitation had the words “Dress Code: Lounge Suit or Lycra” on it, obviously some clever copywrighter squeezing a throw-away gag out. I decided to take that sentiment literally and make myself a lycra suit to wear to the awards. If they’re going to put it on the invite, i’m hardly going to ignore the chance. It’s not everyday you get to wear nothing but lycra to an advertising industry awards night at the Grand Hyatt. I ordered a rowing suit from simply oarsome in the right colours and picked up some extra lycra from spotlight for the mask and cape. I also learned a bit about the g-strings that ballet dancers wear beneath their dancing suits. It seemed appropriate.
… and here the evidence from my last MADC stunt, just for good measure…

I swear you could’ve used the chin on the body builder with the glasses as an ice pick.
