ALLYOUCANUPLOAD.COM

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

ALLYOUCANUPLOAD.COM is a new service from CNet where you can upload images very simply, for free, and have them hosted so that you can post them onto blogs / ebay / forums etc…

It’s the most recent in a line of free media hosting upstarts like Flickr, YouTube, etc… It’s pretty quick and painless and you don’t need to sign up for an account to put an image up. It’s very simple, and if you want to collate you images into albums like you can in flickr you need to sign up for a webshots account, but there is no obligation to do so if you just want to post a pic to put on your blog / site / whatever. A real problem that i have with Flickr is that it has always seems pretty slow for me. I know looking over Nick Loeve’s holiday snaps always takes me ages, this was superquick.

I uploaded the image above. It’s a shot that Nick Osborne took of me ages ago when he was trying out a technique that he wanted to use for a job, and i was trying to look as gay as possible. It uploaded and then presented me with a list of urls for me to use in various formats, BBCODE, HTML etc… it also game me urls to use for a thumbnail of the image. This was pretty handy, but god forbid you ever happen to lose that url, you’ll have to just re-upload the same image i suppose, unless you sign up forr the webshots account.

MADC 2006

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

The elSamador

MADC awards were last night. Picked up a little trophy for the work that we did with adidas for a Google Earth integrated game. It was to launch the 2006 FIFA world cup match ball from adidas. The game incorporated a flash based quiz component that ran in the integrated web browser within the Google Earth app. It was pretty cool, and we got some nice comments from Google on it, so that felt pretty significant.

Each year the MADC has a theme, this year it was all about working hard, putting in all you got, blah blah blah. They likened it to being a dedicated body-builder. The awards had a bunch of body-builders in the foyer to greet you as you came through the doors. The invitation had the words “Dress Code: Lounge Suit or Lycra” on it, obviously some clever copywrighter squeezing a throw-away gag out. I decided to take that sentiment literally and make myself a lycra suit to wear to the awards. If they’re going to put it on the invite, i’m hardly going to ignore the chance. It’s not everyday you get to wear nothing but lycra to an advertising industry awards night at the Grand Hyatt. I ordered a rowing suit from simply oarsome in the right colours and picked up some extra lycra from spotlight for the mask and cape. I also learned a bit about the g-strings that ballet dancers wear beneath their dancing suits.  It seemed appropriate.

… and here the evidence from my last MADC stunt, just for good measure…

And a working bee on the weekend should tidy up all the remaining rubbish that’s lying around, plus we now need to start excavating the frnt yard ready for re-paving. The work never stop.

10kgs of chocolate

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

I am unwell, i think i have gastroenteritis - at least that’s what the Drs verdict was. I’m having night sweats, dizziness, headaches and spending a fair bit too much time in the toilet. Since thursday night the only food that i’ve eaten has been a spatterring of toast and for a big fella that doesn’t mind his food - that could be a record for me - even the 40 hour famine doesn’t take this long! I’ve have dropped about 5kgs though, which takes me down to my target playing weight of around 90kgs. It can’t last long.

So it was the $1000 draw at the footy club on Sunday and even though i wasn’t eating or drinking, i journeyed down to the four hours of free booze and free spi-roast and bbq just to make an appearance. I had three tickets in the draw and so surely surely due to win $1000 - it would only be fair.

There were also 2 raffles being bandied around on the day:

1. the regular ‘joker’s jackpot’ raffle - that never seems to go off, i’m sure it’s a scam. It’s supposed to be for money to put toward the end of season trip, but we never saw any of it lst year, and i’m pretty sure it’ll be the same again this year. Still, i’m sure it’s going to someone who needs it.

2. TEN KILOGRAMS OF CADBURY CHOCOLATE!
Soupy, who works at cadbury schweppes had organised a kind donation of 1 x 10kg block of cadbury chocolate. Immediately my focus was off the $1000 draw, and all i wanted was the big prize, the chocolate! It must have been work over $5000 - SURELY!

So the day was coming to a close and our numbers had been eliminated from the $1000 draw, i’m pretty sure the joker’s jackpot draw was never going to even happen, and the chocolate draw was drawing near - when someone walked outside waving a ticket around - F45!, F45!

I dived into my pocket and looked at my tickets - SHIT! F44! I know i got 3 tickets, this could go either way. I’ll either feel mighty cheated, or be pretty extatic. F45! Yes!

10kgs of chocolate

That box is filled with 5 x 2kg (massive) bars. Each bar consists of (i don’t know how many) normal ’shaped’ blocks but that are much thicker. Here’s a photo…

chocolate thickness

I donated 2kgs to the club, it was gone in about 28 seconds. I still can’t eat any of the remainder myslef as i can’t keep anything down. But i know one day soon, i’m going to be faced with the prospect of 8kg of chocolate at my disposal. I think i’ve lost about 6kgs with this illness, so the chocolate should leave me about sqaure. Awesome.

a new fence

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

In the process off getting a new fence. I’m getting a couple of blokes from the footy club to do it for me as they’re no more expensive, and they’re a good couple dudes. I’d rather give them my hard earned money than some squib i’ve never meant.

So here’s the old fence…
the old fence

And here’s the fence after a day of demolishing and then a day of building…
1/2 a new fence

And here are some pickets after being painted (on the dining room table)…
painted pickets

And here’s the fence after day 3 - almost done. The gate is now on and almost all of the pickets are up. We had painted all of the pickets that we had (which were about 15 short) and if it was me, i would have probably kept all the nicely painted ones together and just tack the rest at the end. However, they seems to be a bit more scattered than that. I’m sure they had their reasons. As you can see there’s a fair bit of waste out the front of our place and today was hard rubbish day, alas they didn’ take our hard rubbish as it was deemed to be “building masterials” - which are not allowed.
nearly there

and soon there will be a photo of a new completed fence…
