Finished Half Life 2 - December 28th, 2005

Finished Half Life 2 . . . finally. Powered through the last few levels which bought some great variety to the whole experience.

Overall i thought it was a fun and varied FPS with some really annoying control issues, namely staying straight when walking on thin ledges and getting in and out of doors. I’ve never found myself walking into the sides of doors so much in any other game. The weapon select system however was very good, a little like Pariah, with a full list of weapons to select immediately, rather than having to cycle through all you inventory one by one.

Of course the gravity gun and general physics system were a real highlight, but i didn’t really care too much for the story. I only ever played Half Life 1 for a short period and didn’t finish it, so maybe if i’d had more of a history with the characters i might have felt attached, but i think Gordon not speaking at any point did actually distance him from me, as a character.

Awesome Xbox game. I only wish i could have played it at a higher resolution, as the video output of the xbox doesn’t look too crash hot on my new monitor.
