CAKE NAME:
Mocha Caramello Slice
DESCRIPTION:
A layered slice flavoured with caramel and mocha. Exterior covered with a rich dark chocolate and topped with swirls of chocolate icing.

EXPERIENCE:
The purchase of this cake began with perceived deception. The particular variation that i had ordered from the frail schlepper behind the goods counter was seemly plucked from a stand full of an alternate flavour. Upon questioning the white-heaired wench if she had in fact deceived me on purpose, she responded firmly in the negative. I could do nothing but trust her as these two variations did bare a visual likeness.

My expectation of this cake was that of rich flavours, with the promise of caramel and an obvious chocolate offering i hoped that the mocha might balance the flavour and perhaps even bring it back from the brink of total chocolate overload.

Unfortunately the overall experience was bland. Most of the taste of this delicacy was overpowered by the liberal use of a generic chocolate sponge that so oft ruins this type of cake. With only a hint of mocha and a mild caramel taste, each flavour did not present itself individually, rather the overall experience was a smothering of mocha/caramel and sickening chocolate with no real journey or discovery offered to the palette.
The hard chocolate covering did provide a welcome contrast to the dry, spongy consistency of the rest of the cake and was of an acceptable quality, although ultimately the experience was soured by the unimaginatively slapping together of this sweets elements in a disappointingly generic manner.
